Long returns

I took a walk today, one that was cut short by the heat. I brought along a Zero Sugar Slurpee and a small bag of Gushers. The walk and the snack clearly balance each other out into a nice net zero for my nutrition.

Ever since I purchased The Soft Bulletin on CD, I've been listening to a lot of The Flaming Lips. The Soft Bulletin in particular is fantastic- a wonderful blend of psychedelia and melancholy. Right in my wheelhouse. On my abridged walk, however, I was listening to their album entitled Yoshimi Battles the Pink Robots. It's an album of theirs I'd actually heard a long time ago- maybe more than 10 years ago.

One of the great shapers of my taste in music when I was young was Pandora's Indie Dance radio station. The other two are soundtrack to Little Big Planet and a friend of my from highschool. One song that the station played here and here was Yoshimi Battles the Pink Robots Pt 1. I remember liking it, but eventually moving on and preferring other tracks. But now, probably more than 10 years later, I've found it anew. I find their run of albums from 1992 to 2002 to be great listens. The only one I have yet to listen to is Zaireeka*

I was thinking about how I'd sort of bounced off of it then but connected to it now, and recalled that I had also bounced off of Give Up by The Postal Service when my Pandora Radio station had played it for me. I relistened to it in college and now it's one of my all time favorites. I sort of did the same with Twin Peaks- I watched it early in High School but only really watched it in College, 4 or 5 years later.

While on my walk, I decided I'd call this sort of thing a "long return", since it feels like I've come home to these pieces of art that I initially dismissed. Looking forward, I wonder if there will be more of these. I hope so!

*I would love to listen to this album properly. To save you a search- this album is 4 CDs that you have to sync up and play on speakers. Together they complete the album. This means I'd somehow need 4 boomboxes or something. Tough!

Are there any pieces of media that are long returns for you?
